Introducing 5 Things!

temp name until I can think of a better one but for now it works.
Introducing 5 Things!

Writing to you today with two points at hand. One, to introduce my new midweek newsletter and two, to remind you if you can’t catch your flow- keep trying because it WILL click. (buttt it might take a year sry)

Start here if you are in a TL;DR kind of mood:

5 things:

  1. I’ve said this before but it bears repeating- I am a huge fan. I love the way he weaves interesting topics and perspectives into stories that we can all relate to and follow. All of his books are equally amazing. I recite anecdotes I have picked up from him very regularly. Basically, Adam makes me more interesting. Last week he wrote in his Substack about not helpful deeds in the spirit that they need to be returned. It’s one of those topics that just keeps swirling around me lately. I loved his take and it was a great short read (one of my goals is to get better at short form writing! that starts…. later)

  2. I have a few Achilles heels but the biggest one is always sleep. This magnesium bath soak enjoyed with sipping either a half CBD half sparkling water combo (my favorite CBD drink currently is flowers- I get mine locally at Local Jo’s) or a 1/4th organic tart cherry juice + 3/4ths sparkling water. If I really need a boost (or should I say unboost?) When I’m on a bad sleep stretch- I love this pillow spray to get even more senses on board that its time to sleep bc I can use all hands on deck.

Always good for an ole fashioned LOL
  3. My favorite IG account for years and years running is @iamthirtyAF. They are always funny, always relevant but never at the expense of making fun of others. They are my Ted Lasso of the internet. Feel good laughs, quirky round ups, all around quality vibes. If you don’t follow- do and if you already do- go look them up so they pop up up in your feed (or change your feed view to following like I do so make sure you see the people you follow!)

  4. My excitement for spring is extra this year (working outside! strategy walks! beach days! longer evenings! bike to the wine shop! my fave summer red wine season! My peggy martin vine is popping off!) and that level is only matched by the vigor in which the gnats of the low country have quickly reemerged. I found these sticks last year in the Highlands and they have been working great to keep the buggers at bay.

Ok now onto the latter (this wont normally be this long winded of a series but I am so excited to finally have found my stride I had to share!)

Over the past year, I’ve been vocal about how I have struggled with formulating a public facing side of my work life. I tried to write several different styles of newsletters, tried different social media styles, tried to teach people about the nerdy stuff I am into. None of it really felt like work that I was proud of nor really felt like it represented me. Me me. It felt like IG trends weren’t for me. Writing a newsletter just about business or tech wasn’t for me. But dammit, I am a business strategist! I have to be able to figure out my OWN personal brand strategy, right? I went back to the drawing board at the start of the year. I wanted to find my writing voice and my podcast voice but in a way that didn’t make me feel like I was wearing a costume. (that’s my personal trigger for not feeling like my authentic self. the costume feeling is always a red flag I am out of alignment.) And then it hit me, my words always flow the easiest and most authentically when I talk about other people/ things I admire. So I drew up a new plan and started there. I wrote my first newsletter about the other newsletter writers I love and then about the apps and tech services I love. Then I progressed into my interview series on people I find fascinating who’s stories haven’t been told. And 9 weeks later…. it’s worked!! I feel sooooo much more in flow. So much more like “me” online. And it feels so great, my friends. I feel like I can share more about my hot takes on current trends, interesting tidbits from the future business world I keep a pulse on, consumer products I’m loving, articles/pods/posts/books I think are worth your time without feeling like I am just wearing someone else’s internet uniform.

I will still be dropping longer notes and interviews here on Sunday’s. I absolutely adore them and cherish my Saturday mornings routine I have fallen into to write them. It makes me feel…. French? (I hope no Parisians are reading this because they would most likely take offense I attach their culture to my post pilates almond milk latte accompanied writing sesh at a neighborhood coffee shop but I digress.) But I am adding in a shorter digest mid week to share a hodgepodge round up of 5 things worth sharing.

Thanks for being here and I hope you enjoy!

There are few words these day that spark joy as quickly as “you have a new subscriber on substack” so if you enjoyed this I would love to send you more!
