those who can't do....

First off, thank you lovely people for all of the feedback on the how to ask for help letter from last week. It really sparks so much joy when people resonate with what’s swirling around in my mind! Don’t be shy to DM me on substack or utilize the comment section below.
So today’s edition is an extension of the aforementioned letter. For those that aren’t currently sitting in the ask-for-helpers seat, how can we better support those that are?
A driving motivator to not having a “niche” when it comes to my client work is how much I love the mix of talented people that land in my inbox. Modern creatives are truly my favorite people to work with. Ones that don’t fit in a box. Ones that have skill sets wildly different than mine. It brings me so much joy to look at the puzzle of the business and make it flow even just a bit better. To find the real driving motivators to what they are putting out in the world and help set up a plan that suits them and all of their uniqueness. My husband says I’m a glutton for punishment1 due to the fact my dream client is A. not someone that typically likes to even identify as a business owner let alone seek out a business advisor and B. can’t really be marketed too because they themselves don’t identify with a niche. But as with every beautiful thing I’ve done in my life that made 0 sense at the start, it just works. You lovely people (you know who you are!) find me and are fine with the fact there’s no blue print and there’s no 60 day business bootcamp. Not trying to conform you to the way I do it, just soaking in the talent and making a more sustainable path for you to keep doing what you are so wonderful at.
All this to say, I live for a second hand high of seeing other people following their creativity (so much so I’ve made a side career out of being in those rooms) and last night was a very big hit. Rebecca Deupree, whom you all got to meet in the “Tell me More” series, launched her web series Friday night! When Rebecca and I first met and went on one of my treasured strategy walks, she started the convo with my most favorite phrase “this might sound strange.” Nothing gets me leaning in more, friends, someone who can’t put to words a new idea or creative project stirring in their minds. {You can listen to and read about Rebecca’s life pivot that has got her to this point, respectively.} She was talking about how she came to the stark realization that no Hollywood producer was going to discover her and skyrocket her to screenwriting fame. She was going to have to do it in a new, unique way. If you know me, you’ll know my next words were “say less.” She detailed the fantastical idea to make an interactive web series where the audience votes and collaborates to move the plotline along. Watching this grow from ideation to seeing the final product on the big screen this weekend was one of the very best second hand highs I have had.
I’d love to share my thoughts with you bi-weekly!
Knowing how much goes on behind the scenes of any launch or even just the day to day running of a business always motivates me to show up. To leave the Instagram caption with an audacious amount of emojis, to be in the front row, to go to every art show, reshare other peoples wins. I say this all of the time, but I wholeheartedly believe what the world needs more than ever are more creative thinkers, more people saying “you know what, I am going to take this into my own hands.” And those people could be anyone. I think it’s never been better to be someone that doesn’t have a “formula” they are tied to for their success. Those ways of doing life are becoming more costly, mentally and monetarily, to maintain.

So my plea to you dear friends, if you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, underwhelmed, just craving something new- share the second hand highs. Unabashedly give the hype you’d like to see in your future pipe dream launch. Create and cultivate a practice of showing up for those that are putting themselves out there in new ways. Be part of the reason they keep going. Best case scenario? You get to enjoy whatever they are putting out in the world for years to come, knowing that your good juju was even the tiniest of catalysts. Worst case scenario? You get to feel great about just being kind and expecting nothing in return. {also as a big believer in karma/ you get back what you put out, it’s a fantastic energy investment}
Oh, and watch Dial Mom for Murder!!!!!!!! And follow on Insta and Tiktok!
And also a gluten for punishment when I happily feast on a meal that future Victoria will be really disappointed in as she lives with stomach pain for hours. But honestly that sounds like her problem, not pre-meal mine. ↩
